Akbar and the Magic Potion

Listen to the story
Narrated by Daddy
One day, Emperor Akbar went to the doctor for his annual checkup. The doctor examined him carefully and delivered some troubling news. "Akbar, your blood pressure is high, your sugar levels are elevated, and you've become quite overweight. You need to lose weight."
Akbar looked down at his giant tummy and sighed. "Okay, doctor. How do I lose weight?"
The doctor gave him the usual advice: stop eating sugar, avoid certain foods, exercise regularly, and make healthier choices. Akbar tried his best, but he simply couldn't stick to the plan. He loved eating delicious food, and he absolutely hated exercising. Days turned into weeks, and instead of losing weight, he kept gaining more.
Frustrated, Akbar asked everyone he met for advice. "What should I do? How can I lose weight?" Everyone gave him the same answer: "You have to eat less and exercise more." But Akbar didn't want to hear it. He would get angry whenever anyone mentioned diets or exercise. "I want a way to lose weight without all these boring diets and tiresome workouts!" he would shout.
Finally, Akbar called for his most trusted advisor. "Where is my favorite minister, Birbal?"
When Birbal arrived, Akbar explained his problem. Birbal knew that if he simply told Akbar to exercise and eat healthy food, the emperor would only get angry. So Birbal came up with a clever plan.

"Akbar, I have a very special solution for you," Birbal announced.
Akbar's eyes lit up. "I always knew you would have a solution for me, Birbal! You are the smartest person in my kingdom."
Birbal brought out a large, heavy pot and a small bottle filled with a red-colored liquid. "This is a magical solution," Birbal explained solemnly. "I traveled all the way to Mount Kailash for an entire month to obtain this from a holy priest. It is very, very special."
Akbar leaned forward, fascinated. "Really? What do I have to do?"
"Every morning," Birbal instructed, "you must fill this large pot with water. Then you must carry it around the fountain in your garden ten times. After you finish the ten rounds, add exactly three drops of this magical solution to the water, and drink two glasses. You can continue drinking from this pot throughout the day."
"That's it?" Akbar asked, relieved.

"Not quite," Birbal added. "This is holy water, and it has certain rules. You cannot eat anything sweet while drinking this water, because the water will react badly and give you rashes. Also, no bread and no pasta. The water doesn't work well with those foods."
Akbar hesitated. He loved sweets and pasta. But the promise of losing weight without real exercise seemed too good to pass up. "Okay, okay, I'll try my best."
The next morning, Akbar filled the heavy pot with water and began walking around the fountain. It was difficult—the pot was heavy, and he was sweating and panting. But he reminded himself, "Birbal said this is special. I must do it." After completing ten rounds, he added three drops of the red solution and drank two glasses of water.
Later that day, Akbar desperately wanted to eat some sweets. He took one small bite, but immediately Birbal's warning echoed in his mind. Because he believed the water would react badly, he started feeling strange and shivering. "Okay, okay," he told himself. "No more sugar!"
Every morning, Akbar carried the heavy pot and walked around the fountain. After the first week, he stepped on the weighing scale and discovered he had lost one kilogram. "Wow, Birbal, you are my man! I lost one kilo!" he exclaimed.
Of course, Akbar didn't realize the truth. He was losing weight not because of any magical potion, but because he was exercising by carrying the heavy pot and walking many rounds, and he had stopped eating sugar.

Birbal came to check on him. "Very good, Akbar! You lost one kilo already. Now, for the second week, put six drops in the water instead of three. And instead of ten rounds, you must take twenty rounds around the fountain."
Akbar agreed eagerly. Birbal also added, "And now, no sugar, no bread, and no pasta. Replace them with vegetables."
The second week, Akbar followed the new instructions. He took twenty rounds with the heavy pot, drank the water with six drops, and avoided sugar, bread, and pasta. When he weighed himself at the end of the week, he had lost three more kilograms! He was thrilled. "Birbal, you are so good! You're a genius!"
Birbal smiled. "This week, we'll increase it to fifteen drops. But you must take thirty rounds around the fountain. And now, you also cannot eat any junk food. Only then will the water work properly."
Akbar agreed without hesitation. Week after week, Birbal kept increasing the number of drops and the number of rounds. He gradually eliminated all unhealthy foods from Akbar's diet, replacing them with nutritious meals. After three months, Akbar had lost all his excess weight. He was fit, healthy, and as thin as a stick.
Akbar was overjoyed and told everyone, "This magic potion made me lose weight! Birbal is so smart!"

But Birbal knew it was time to tell the truth. "Akbar, I must be honest with you now. There is nothing magical in this potion. It's just colored water. You lost weight because I made you exercise by walking round and round the fountain with a heavy pot. And I made you eat healthy food by telling you the water would react with sweets and junk food. That's the real reason you lost weight—not because of any silly medicine."
Akbar's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, wow, Birbal! You opened my eyes. Now I understand. I'm not going to eat sugar ever again, and every day, I will walk twenty rounds around the fountain."
And he did. Akbar continued his healthy habits, remained fit and strong, and learned an important lesson: there are no shortcuts to good health. The real magic lies in discipline, exercise, and eating well.
