Dr. Mark and the Boy in the Jungle

Listen to the story
Narrated by Daddy
Once upon a time, there was a doctor named Dr. Mark. He was the best doctor in the world for a very particular disease—asthma. People who had breathing problems would come to him, and he knew exactly how to check and cure them. He was the best doctor in the world for asthma.
But Dr. Mark charged a lot of money. He charged $5,000 per hour to help people. He was very, very rich, and he was very greedy. People who were suffering and had money could come to him, but people who didn't have money could not afford his services. They had to go to other doctors. Still, Dr. Mark was the best doctor for breathing problems and asthma.
Dr. Mark lived in Singapore. One day, they decided to give him a big award in Australia for all his service. They were going to give him a trophy, an award, and a certificate. They called him and said, 'Dr. Mark, you have to come by tomorrow because the award ceremony is tomorrow.'
He said, 'Okay.' But there was a problem—there were no regular planes available, especially because it was during COVID times. So he got a special private jet to fly from Singapore to Australia.

He got on the private jet and was quite happy. He had a lot of money, so he could afford it. But you know what happened? It started to rain. The weather turned bad, and one of the engines of the private jet was not working properly. The plane started going up and down, up and down.
The pilot said, 'Dr. Mark, I have to land in Malaysia. You cannot go to Australia right now. There is a small airport in Malaysia. I will land there. We have to fix the airplane first. We cannot just go.'
So they landed at a small airport in Malaysia. Dr. Mark asked, 'How do I go to Australia from here?'
They said, 'I am sorry, Dr. Mark, there is no airport here which can take you to Australia. This is a very, very small city in Malaysia called Redang. From here, you have to drive to Kuala Lumpur, and from Kuala Lumpur, you can take another flight to Australia.'

Dr. Mark said, 'Okay, that's not good.' So he called the people who were giving him the award and explained the problem. They said, 'Okay, try to come as fast as possible.'
So he got a taxi and took it from Redang to Kuala Lumpur. On the way, there was a big jungle—a very big jungle. The taxi driver took him through the jungle, and then suddenly it started raining very heavily. There was a thunderstorm, lightning, and water everywhere.
The taxi driver lost his way. He took a wrong turn and went deep into the jungle. He said, 'I am sorry, Dr. Mark. I don't know where I am. We are lost.'
Dr. Mark said, 'Okay. I can't go to Australia for the award. Never mind. Let's try to find our way back to Redang, and then we can take a plane back to Singapore. It's okay, I don't need the award.'

The driver said, 'I don't even know how to go back to the airport.' So he kept roaming around in the jungle. He was lost, and it was raining with water everywhere.
In the jungle, they saw a small hut. There was a light there. Dr. Mark said, 'I am very hungry. Driver, do you think you can take me to this small little hut?'
The driver said, 'Okay.' So he drove there, and Dr. Mark went in. Knock, knock, knock.
A poor, very poor person opened the door. He was in a small, torn t-shirt. He said, 'Hello, how can I help you?'

Dr. Mark said, 'Hello, I'm lost in the jungle. We were driving to the airport, and both of us are lost. Can you give us shelter?'
The man said, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's raining. Come inside, come inside.' They both came inside, and he gave them nice towels. He said, 'Please dry yourself. Otherwise, you'll catch a cold.'
This was a very nice man. His name was Abdul. Abdul gave them towels and said, 'Please dry yourself.' So Dr. Mark and the driver dried themselves with the towels.
Abdul said, 'You want some tea?'

Dr. Mark said, 'Yeah, yeah, I would love tea because it's very cold.'
So Abdul and his wife brought them tea because they were all wet. Then he said, 'Gentlemen, you seem to be very hungry. Can I give you some food?'
Dr. Mark said, 'Yes, yes, please give me some food.'
So Abdul gave food to Dr. Mark and the driver, and they ate. Dr. Mark was so happy for the generosity because Abdul was so generous. He had just welcomed them and was giving them food, towels, and shelter. He said, 'Whoever you are, please stay here for as long as you want to, till the rain goes away, till the storm goes away. When the storm goes away, I'll tell you how to get back to Redang, and then you can take a flight back to Singapore.'

So they stayed. And then suddenly, a boy was crying out.
Dr. Mark said, 'What's happening, Abdul? Who's crying?'
Abdul said, 'You know, that is my son. And he has a lot of breathing problems. He cannot breathe properly. He has asthma. And I took him to so many doctors. The doctors say that there is nobody who can cure him. There is only one doctor in the whole world who can cure him. You know who that doctor is? Dr. Mark. Only Dr. Mark. And I don't know where this doctor is. He's in Singapore, and he charges $5,000 every hour. I don't have that kind of money. I'm poor.'
Dr. Mark said, 'Abdul, do you pray to God?'

Abdul said, 'Every day I pray to God.'
Dr. Mark said, 'Your God is great because your God has brought me here. You know, I was going to Australia. Your God made my plane fail. It made me land in Redang. After that, I took a taxi. It started raining. And then I was roaming, roaming, and I got lost. Do you know who I am?'
Abdul said, 'I don't know who you are.'
Dr. Mark said, 'I am Dr. Mark. I will help your son because you are so generous. When the rain stops, in the taxi, I will take your son back, and I will cure him.'

And after that, the next day, it stopped raining. Dr. Mark took Abdul and his son to Singapore. He gave them medicines. He did a lot of medication and completely cured him. And his son became okay.
Dr. Mark said, 'You see how great God is. I was going to Australia. He made my plane go wrong. He made me land in some silly, silly little town. And then I took a taxi, and the taxi got lost. And it got lost and took me to your house. All because I could cure your son. So you should please pray to your God.'
And that way, Dr. Mark helped a very sick boy and made him well.

I like this story because it teaches us how to never give up and that we should worship our gods every single day.
