Shanaya was a curious little girl who loved adventure. One day, her family took a trip to Turkey, to a beautiful place called Cappadocia. Cappadocia is famous for its colorful hot air balloons that float high in the sky every morning.

When Shanaya saw the balloons for the first time, her eyes went wide with wonder. "Daddy, what are those?" she asked, pointing at the sky filled with balloons of every color—red, blue, yellow, green, purple—floating like giant bubbles above the rocky hills.

"Those are hot air balloons," her father explained. "Would you like to go up in one?"

Shanaya was so excited she could barely sit still. The next morning, they went to ride in a hot air balloon. Mama and Daddy were there with her in the big basket. Shanaya had flown in airplanes before, but this was different. This was her first time in a balloon!

The balloon lifted gently off the ground, and soon they were floating high in the air. Shanaya could touch the clouds! She looked down and saw the beautiful landscape below. A bird flew by, and she said hello to it. The balloon came down very safely, and Shanaya was absolutely thrilled.

"Daddy, I really want to grow up and become a hot air balloon pilot!" she declared.

Her father smiled. "There's nothing like a hot air balloon pilot, Shanaya."

"But I will become one!" she insisted. "I will fly these balloons!"

And she did. Shanaya grew up and found a place where people could race hot air balloons. She learned how to fly them on her own. It was simpler than she thought—you had to control the flame to make the balloon go up and down, and you had to watch the wind to know which direction you would go.

Shanaya became a professional hot air balloon pilot. She flew long distances, not just short trips. She traveled from one country to another, taking beautiful pictures from high in the sky.

One day, she heard about a big race in Turkey—the best hot air balloon pilots in the world were coming to compete. The race would go from Cappadocia to Istanbul, which was very far. Whoever finished first would win the first prize. Second place would get the second prize.

Shanaya practiced and practiced and practiced. She was determined to do well.

On the day of the race, Shanaya climbed into her balloon's basket. She flicked the flame, and the balloon began to rise. She looked around to see which way the wind was blowing, because the wind could help her go faster.

She found a good wind current, and soon she was in first place! She kept the flame going strong, and her balloon flew faster and faster.

But here's the thing about hot air balloons—you can't blow the flame too much, because if the balloon goes too high, it can get very shaky.

Shanaya wanted to win so badly that she kept going higher and higher. And then, suddenly, disaster struck. There was a hole in the balloon!

The balloon started shaking. Shaking, shaking, shaking, shaking, shaking.

Shanaya got a little scared. "What will happen now?" she thought. The balloon was shaking, but there was still a lot of gas in it. She was very close to Istanbul—not too far.

She had an idea. "I'll take the balloon toward Istanbul slowly and carefully, and I won't let it fall down," she decided.

She kept the flame going, but the gas was escaping through the hole. "What can I do? What can I do?" she wondered.

Then she remembered—she had tape in her basket! She climbed up the balloon carefully. There was a place to climb, and she reached the hole. She put a lot of tape over it.

The balloon stopped shaking as much, but it still wasn't very safe. The whole thing could still fall down.

Shanaya was scared, but she was also a brave girl. She kept the flame going slowly and brought the balloon down a little bit, not too high anymore.

She realized she had gotten greedy. She had wanted to go faster and higher, and in that greed, she had gone too high and her balloon had gotten a hole.

Slowly, slowly, slowly, she brought the balloon down. She didn't fall. She came down carefully. There was a parachute attached to the balloon, and she opened it. The balloon landed safely.

But she did not win the race. Another girl won first place because Shanaya had become too greedy.

At least she was safe, though. And she learned something very important.

She told everyone, "I will not get too greedy. If I want to win, I don't have to go crazy fast. I have to do it safely and not be reckless. It's like running a race—you have to run as fast as you can, but not so crazy fast that you fall down."

That's how Shanaya came in second place. She learned a very important lesson: you can never go too high. There is a limit to everything. If you go beyond the limit, things can get spoiled.

And that is the story of Shanaya and the hot air balloon race.

I like this story because it teaches us that you should not be greedy.
